Dangerous New Linux Exploit Gives Attackers Root Access to Countless Computers

Researchers disclosed CopyFail (CVE-2026-31431), a Linux kernel local privilege-escalation flaw, along with public exploit code.

The bug affects many Linux releases and was patched in some kernel versions, but many distributions had not yet widely rolled out fixes.

That patch gap makes unpatched hosts immediately risky: attackers with limited access could turn it into root on shared servers, containers, and CI systems.

The issue is especially concerning for Kubernetes, CI/CD, and WordPress environments where a single cross-distro script could accelerate compromise.
