Character.AI has launched c.ai Books, a feature that turns public-domain books into interactive roleplaying chatbots.

Users can chat with story worlds, follow original plots, or remix classics like Alice in Wonderland, Pride and Prejudice, and Romeo and Juliet.

The books appear to be sourced from Project Gutenberg and are used to train or power the new experience.

The move is notable because the feature is available to children, despite Character.AI’s earlier ban on underage users after safety controversies and teen suicide lawsuits.
