OpenAI's Fidji Simo Is Taking Medical Leave Amid an Executive Shake-Up

OpenAI announced a major reorganization and said Fidji Simo is taking several weeks of medical leave to focus on her health.

Greg Brockman will oversee the product teams while Simo is away; Brad Lightcap is moving to a 'special projects' role and will lead forward-deployed engineers.

Simo experienced a relapse of a neuroimmune condition before starting the job, postponed medical tests and new therapies to stay focused, and now needs to try new interventions.

Kate Rouch is also on a leave of absence to focus on her health and has been undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

OpenAI will search for a new CMO and a chief communications officer; Chris Lehane is interim communications lead, and the company is refocusing on core products after shuttering Sora.
