Google Photos finally lets you turn off that annoying Shimmer feature

Google Photos rolled out an update with a new Settings > Preferences toggle to turn off Shimmer.

Shimmer is a sparkly outline effect that many users found annoying, so the new option adds welcome control.

The app also lets users open the phone camera directly when starting certain AI photo creation tools, including Remix.

That makes it faster to launch AI edits from a fresh camera shot, improving the workflow in Google Photos.
