Apple plans to make iOS 27 a Choose Your Own Adventure of AI models

Apple is reportedly testing “Extensions” for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 that would let Apple Intelligence tap different third-party AI models.

The feature could allow users to choose between models from Google, Anthropic, and possibly ChatGPT for tools like Siri, Writing Tools, and Image Playground.

If shipped, it would give Apple users more flexibility and mark a notable shift away from relying mainly on Apple’s own AI stack.
