DIY environment “AutoProber” that photographs and maps circuit boards for probing using assorted parts and an AI agent

J-GainSec released AutoProber on GitHub, an open-source AI-assisted PCB probing system built from hobbyist hardware like a small CNC machine, USB microscope, and oscilloscope.

It photographs circuit boards, maps pads and components, suggests probe targets, and requires human approval before any probe is executed.

The system also includes calibration and independent safety monitoring to halt motion if errors or unsafe conditions are detected.

The release drew attention for showing how AI agents can help automate hardware debugging and reverse engineering, while raising concerns about accuracy and physical safety.
