Europe is hungry for AI data centres — but its energy grid cannot feed them

Europe wants to expand AI data centres, but weak grid capacity is slowing projects and pushing up costs.

A new Interface report says large AI facilities can need hundreds of megawatts and wait years for grid connections.

Without faster energy and grid reform, some projects could become stranded assets and miss economic opportunities.

The pressure is especially acute in major FLAP-D markets such as Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris and Dublin.
