Technology that records in video "when, who, and how it was edited" developed by NHK Science and Technology Research Laboratories; provenance data can also identify "AI fakes"

NHK's science and technology lab showcased a prototype provenance system at 2026 open house based on C2PA.

The system records when and where video was shot, who edited it, and what changes were made.

A browser feature was also demoed to verify and display that history for news footage and other content.

The goal is to help detect AI-generated misinformation and confirm the trustworthiness of broadcast materials.
