Senators Demand Apple Commit to Not Buying Chinese Memory Chips

A group of U.S. senators led by Chuck Schumer is pressing Apple to promise it will not buy memory chips from Chinese makers CXMT or YMTC.

They say using chips linked to China’s military or listed by U.S. regulators could weaken the domestic semiconductor supply chain and set a dangerous precedent.

Apple has reportedly explored or tested Chinese memory chips amid shortages and has sought U.S. approval to move forward.

Lawmakers are also questioning Apple’s lobbying efforts and whether further restrictions may be needed.
