Widely Available Drug Found To Ease One of Long COVID’s Most Stubborn Symptoms

A randomized international trial of 399 adults in Brazil tested fluvoxamine, metformin, and placebo for long COVID fatigue.

Fluvoxamine reduced persistent fatigue and improved quality‑of‑life measures compared with placebo with 99% probability of superiority.

Metformin did not show meaningful benefit for treating existing long COVID fatigue in this trial.

The study used a Bayesian adaptive design and results were published in the Annals of Internal Medicine on 30 March 2026.
