China Meteorological Administration: A super El Niño event is forming, and it may be the strongest in 150 years - IT之家

China’s meteorological authority says sea-surface temperatures in the equatorial central-eastern Pacific kept rising and entered strong El Niño monitoring conditions in July.

The chance of a super El Niño forming has increased, with a possible peak in autumn and winter and a duration extending into next spring.

Its intensity could approach or even exceed the 1997/1998 record, according to the latest assessment.

El Niño can reshape global and regional weather patterns, raising the risk of heatwaves, droughts and heavy rainfall, while also threatening coastal ecosystems and aquaculture in China.
