Those ‘new’ EU battery regulations probably won’t mean hot-swap batteries for your Android phone

EU battery rules taking effect in 2027 do not automatically require Android phones to use fully user-removable batteries.

The regulations focus on removability with commercially available tools, not old-style hot-swappable designs.

Devices can also qualify if batteries keep 80% capacity after 1,000 cycles and meet IP67 standards.

Many recent Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy models may already satisfy those durability thresholds.
