Ransomware attacks have become a “sustainable business”: entry costs 66,000 yen, recovery costs 230 million yen

Halcyon Japan has launched operations in Japan as ransomware attacks intensify across the market.

Its report says attackers can buy intrusion access for about ¥66,000, while victims face average recovery costs of roughly ¥230 million.

The gap between low attacker entry costs and massive victim losses is drawing more ransomware activity, especially in manufacturing.

The findings also point to growing phishing and data-theft campaigns against Japanese companies, raising the need for stronger defenses.
