U.S. 159kg teacher climbs onto elementary student’s back… absurd excuse: “for discipline”

Jason Rogers, a science teacher and athletics coach at Underwood Public School in Minnesota, was charged with child abuse after a drill incident.

During a fire drill, he reportedly put his weight on a prone boy’s back for about 10 seconds, and investigators found similar conduct toward two other students.

Rogers admitted to three misdemeanor assault and abuse counts.

The court ordered probation, fines, community service, anger-management classes, a written apology, and surrender of his teaching license instead of jail.

The case has reignited debate over corporal punishment and school discipline, with local criticism that the sentence was too lenient.
