Nankai to redevelop Kongo Station area with new commercial facility and station plaza

Nankai Electric Railway, Osaka Sayama City and Tondabayashi City signed a basic agreement to redevelop the Kongo Station area as a public–private project.

They plan to open a commercial facility by fiscal 2031 and finish station building and plaza renovations by fiscal 2033.

The project responds to a long-term decline in daily boardings since 1995 and aims to strengthen the area's transport hub and commercial functions.

Preparations including statutory urban-planning procedures and design work will start from fiscal 2026, with plaza, parking and station refurbishments planned.
