This startup raised $43M to build a hive mind for ships

Arlington startup Quartermaster raised a $43 million Series A led by First Round Capital and Quiet Capital.

The company will use the funding to expand SmartMast, a weather-hardened mast sensor system and analytics platform.

SmartMast is already deployed on more than 600 ships across 10 million square miles of ocean.

Quartermaster says the network can improve maritime visibility, reduce AIS spoofing, and support safety, autonomy, rescue, and government use cases.
