Scientists Complete Largest 3D Map of the Universe to Probe Dark Energy

Scientists completed DESI’s full survey ahead of schedule, creating the most detailed 3D map of the universe so far.

The map is based on observations of more than 47 million galaxies and quasars collected with the Mayall telescope at Kitt Peak.

Researchers will use the dataset to probe dark energy, cosmic expansion, and how the universe’s large-scale structure has evolved.

The result could help determine whether dark energy changes over time and refine models of the universe’s future.
