Tiny Blue Octopus Unlike Any We Know of Discovered Near the Galapagos

Scientists identified a new deep-sea octopus species, Microeledone galapagensis, near the Galapagos Islands.

The golf ball-sized blue cephalopod was found about 1,800 meters down and documented from photos and CT scans.

Researchers said its unusual color and anatomy, including sucker rows, set it apart from known species.

The case highlights how noninvasive imaging can help describe deep-ocean life from a single specimen.
