Scientists found scorpions reinforce their stingers and pincers with heavy metals in species-specific patterns.

X-ray and electron microscope analysis of 18 species showed zinc, iron, and manganese concentrated in different parts of the weapons.

Stingers often had zinc at the tip and manganese farther down, while pincers had zinc and iron along the cutting edge.

The metal layouts appear tied to each species’ hunting and defense strategy, showing a finely tuned evolutionary adaptation.
