newmo and Osaka City to commercialize Level 4 autonomous taxis in 2028

Osaka City, newmo, and Yumeshima Kotsu signed an agreement to collaborate on autonomous taxi services.

newmo Group will combine a nationwide 1,400-vehicle taxi base with new technologies to implement autonomous taxis.

Closed-area tests and low-traffic public road demonstrations start in May 2026 in the Maishima area of Konohana Ward, Osaka.

They aim to commercialize under specific conditions in 2028 using Level 4 autonomy with safety drivers onboard.
