OpenAI goes full China pricing mode with an 80 percent cut to its most affordable GPT-5.6 model

OpenAI cut GPT-5.6 Luna pricing by 80% and Terra pricing by 20% effective July 30.

Sol pricing stayed unchanged, with OpenAI saying the cuts were enabled by efficiency gains in GPT-5.6 Sol.

Those gains included lower deployment costs and faster token generation.

The move intensifies AI price competition and could pressure rival model providers and revenue growth across frontier AI labs.
