Replaceable batteries gain ground ahead of new EU regulations…headphones, e-books, and game consoles redesigned

The EU will require many portable devices to let users replace batteries starting in February 2027.

Headphones, e-readers, handheld game consoles, and laptops are among the affected products; makers must also sell compatible parts for at least five years.

Firms like Fender, Sennheiser, and Fairphone already offer replaceable-battery products, while Amazon, Microsoft, and Nintendo are reviewing designs.

Smartphones and tablets face separate rules, and wireless earbuds and wearables may be harder to cover under the new framework.
