'National AI Computing Center' breaks ground in Haenam, South Jeolla...partial supply to begin next year

The Ministry of Science and ICT has begun construction of the National AI Computing Center at the Solsido Data Center Park in Haenam, South Jeolla Province.

The project will invest 2.5 trillion won to build computing infrastructure powered by 15,000 AI chips, with completion targeted for 2028.

Samsung SDS was selected as the operator, with Naver Cloud, Samsung C&T, Kakao, Samsung Electronics, and KT participating in the consortium.

Before the center is completed, some AI computing resources will be provided early next year through Samsung SDS’s data center.

The project is expected to strengthen Korea’s AI training and inference capacity and support a renewable-energy-based regional data hub model.
