Trusted the App Store and lost $1.8 million... Apple gets caught up in lawsuit over fake coin app

Three customers have sued Apple after losing about $1.8 million in bitcoin to a fraudulent Sparrow Wallet app on the App Store.

The lawsuit says Apple’s app review and monitoring were too weak and that users were not adequately warned about crypto app scams.

Apple says it removed the app, shut down the developer account, and tells users to report suspicious apps.

The case could help define how much responsibility app stores bear for stopping and flagging fake cryptocurrency apps.
