Why we built a metadata-driven Angular framework instead of using Retool

A B2B team used Retool successfully for internal dashboards, but customer-facing needs exposed UX limits, rising per-user costs, and heavy customization overhead.

They compared Retool with Refine, Budibase, and AppSmith, then decided not to stay on a low-code path.

Instead, they built WUIC: a closed-source Angular framework where metadata drives the UI.

The goal was finer control over customer-facing admin screens and less duplicated code across forms, validation, and docs.
