PS5 Linux loader goes public, turning ‘Phat’ consoles into full Linux PCs — build script includes bootable Ubuntu 24.04 image, can output 4K games at 60 FPS

Security researcher Andy Nguyen has publicly released ps5-linux, a reproducible PS5 Linux loader on GitHub.

It targets PS5 Phat consoles on firmware 3.xx to 4.xx and boots Ubuntu 24.04 with installer tools, payloads, and system controls.

The mod is temporary and still needs a separate jailbreak to launch, but it can output 1080p to 4K at 60 Hz.

Linux can run from an optional M.2 SSD without touching the internal drive, turning some older PS5s into usable Linux PCs.
