Google has made captchas even more demanding. The Open Source community has not been amused

Google is testing stricter anti-bot checks that may require QR scanning and, on Android, recent Google Play Services plus Play Integrity verification.

That creates problems for custom ROMs like GrapheneOS, which intentionally ship without Google services and could be blocked despite being secure.

Critics say the change could make access to websites depend on Google-certified Android components, hurting privacy-focused and de-Googled devices.

The backlash also revives concerns from the dropped Web Environment Integrity proposal, which drew broad opposition.
