Nuro receives driverless testing permit ahead of Uber robotaxi service launch

California regulators let Nuro test Lucid Gravity SUVs without a human safety operator on public roads.

The vehicles will support Uber’s premium robotaxi program, but ride-hailing and deployment approvals are still required.

Testing is already underway with safety drivers, and Uber has increased its commitment to Lucid.

Lucid is targeting commercial operations for late 2026.
