Scientists Just Found the Solar System’s Original “Planet Factory”

Scientists simulated a gas-pressure ring just beyond Jupiter’s orbit that could trap dust and build planetesimals.

The model suggests this region produced multiple generations of rocky bodies over about two million years.

Those bodies match different classes of carbonaceous meteorites found on Earth.

The work links Jupiter’s early growth to the diversity of asteroids and meteorites in the Solar System.
