New Wearable Ultrasound Device Could 'Transform' Pregnancy Care

Researchers from UC San Diego, Stanford, and Oxford developed UPatch, a skin-worn ultrasound patch for continuous fetal monitoring.

In tests across 62 pregnancies, it autonomously captured ultrasound images and measured key indicators with performance comparable to standard scans.

The device also helped identify a case of preeclampsia, suggesting it could aid earlier detection of pregnancy complications.

If validated further, UPatch could expand prenatal imaging and reduce reliance on scarce sonography access.
