Spotify and Its Hosting Platforms Are Adopting Apple's Tech for Video Podcasts

Spotify will support Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) for video podcasts, making them easier to move into Apple Podcasts.

The change enables features such as audio-video switching, offline downloads, and dynamic ad insertion.

Spotify is also expanding its Distribution API to more hosting partners, including Audioboom, Audiomeans, Podigee, Podspace, and Libsyn.

Using Apple’s streaming standard could improve cross-app distribution and monetization, but it also deepens reliance on proprietary technology.
