Introducing deep research

OpenAI launched deep research in ChatGPT, an agentic tool that can autonomously search, analyze, and synthesize web information into cited reports.

The feature is designed to speed up complex knowledge work and shopping research by turning many sources into documented summaries.

OpenAI later expanded access and usage limits, and added support for more browser capabilities and source controls.

It also introduced real-time tracking and broader model support, including o3 and o4-mini, to improve the research workflow.
