Google's AI watermarking technology "SynthID" adopted by OpenAI

OpenAI will adopt Google’s SynthID watermarking for images generated in ChatGPT, Codex, and the OpenAI API.

The company will also use C2PA-compliant Content Credentials to attach metadata about content provenance.

The move is aimed at improving source verification, tamper resistance, and transparency for AI-generated media.

It also signals growing industry alignment on standards to help combat misinformation.
