Modern Blu-ray drives can now rip GameCube, Wii, and Xbox 360 games to PC — third-party OmniDrive firmware unlocks game rips from physical media on select players

OmniDrive firmware can turn select Blu-ray drives into disc-ripping tools for older game consoles.

A demo showed support for GameCube, Wii, original Xbox, Xbox 360, and Dreamcast discs, with PC ISO dumps.

Later-console encrypted media is still unsupported, so the feature is limited to certain retro discs and compatible drives.

The update could help retro gamers and preservationists archive games more easily, but incompatible hardware may be at risk of bricking.
