China launches first 1,000,000 cubic-meter hydrogen storage project using salt caverns

China has launched its first large-scale salt cavern hydrogen storage demonstration project in Pingdingshan, Henan.

The facility is designed to store about 1.5 million standard cubic meters of hydrogen underground.

It will validate key technical issues such as sealing, pressure control, and long-term storage safety.

The project could help solve hydrogen storage and transport bottlenecks needed to scale clean energy use.
