China’s DD6 single-crystal superalloy rivals US jet engine blade materials

China says its DD6 nickel-based single-crystal superalloy now matches leading U.S. and European jet engine blade materials while costing less to produce.

A China Media Group report says DD6 was independently developed by the AECC Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials after decades of work.

The alloy is described as a second-generation material for turbine blades, already used in multiple advanced aero-engines.

If accurate, DD6 would reduce China’s reliance on imported critical engine materials and strengthen both military and civilian propulsion capabilities.
