Spain's Galicia region bets big on AI and satellites to prevent summer 'megafires'

Galicia has launched a €213 million wildfire prevention plan after a record-bad 2025 fire season.

The plan adds AI image analysis, more cameras, satellites and a new app to detect fires within minutes instead of hours.

Local firms like Xeocode and OroraTech are involved, alongside the regional government led by Alfonso Rueda.

Officials hope faster detection will help limit fast-moving megafires and reduce damage in places like Ourense.
