OpenAI reportedly working on its own smartphone based around AI agents

OpenAI is reportedly building a smartphone centered on AI agents, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The device may use custom components from MediaTek or Qualcomm, with Luxshare handling manufacturing support.

The project is still in early development, with a final design expected in late 2026 or early 2027.

If it moves forward, mass production could start as early as 2028.

The effort could point to a new consumer device category built around agentic AI, not just AI features in a phone.
