US advances plan to convert Cold War plutonium stockpiles into nuclear reactor fuel

The U.S. Department of Energy is negotiating with Oklo and other firms to convert surplus Cold War plutonium into fuel for advanced reactors.

Oklo’s selection under the plutonium-to-fuel program lifted its stock and reinforced its fuel-development partnership with newcleo.

The initiative could reduce long-term plutonium storage risks while easing a key fuel-supply bottleneck for advanced nuclear deployment.
