Parents on Instagram, Facebook: Meta wants to talk to you about your teen

Meta will notify identified U.S. parents about teen age checks on Facebook and Instagram and expand age-detection tools to more users in the EU, Brazil, and the U.S.

The company also said it will use AI to better flag underage accounts as it tightens youth-safety controls.

The announcement comes during a New Mexico trial accusing Meta of misleading users about child safety and failing to protect minors.

The state is seeking stronger court-ordered changes and additional damages, underscoring growing legal pressure on social media platforms.
