X said it uncovered a suspected China-linked network involving about 200,000 inauthentic accounts, including 200 that amplified claims that AI data centers raise electricity bills and strain the U.S. grid.

Some accounts appeared American and used commentary and AI-generated images to intensify the narrative about data-center energy costs.

The case shows how foreign influence operations can distort legitimate U.S. concerns about data-center impacts on power prices and infrastructure.
