OpenAI Steps Up Election Measures, Adds AP Vote-Counting Data to ChatGPT and Backs Deepfake Regulation Bill

OpenAI says it will strengthen election safeguards ahead of the 2026 vote cycle.

ChatGPT and related tools will surface trusted election information, including AP election results for the U.S. and Brazil and voting guidance from Democracy Works in the U.S.

The company is also expanding support for election officials and voting-system vendors with security tools and provenance checks for AI-generated content using SynthID and C2PA.

OpenAI said it backs efforts to curb misleading election AI content, while also restricting political ads and large-scale campaign messaging during election periods.
