Moon Astronauts Forced to Use Bags as “Burning Odor” Emanates From Toilet

NASA’s Artemis 2 crew faced repeated toilet malfunctions on the way to the Moon.

The Universal Waste Management System first accepted only solid waste, then developed a blockage likely caused by frozen urine in a vent line.

Crew members also reported a burning smell in the hygiene bay, which officials said may have come from heated insulation.

Mission controllers warmed the Orion capsule in sunlight to clear the blockage and later restored full toilet use.
