NASA's Next-Gen Mars Helicopter Rotors Have Broken the Sound Barrier in Tests

NASA tested next-generation Mars helicopter rotors in a Mars-simulated chamber and found they could safely reach supersonic tip speeds.

The two-blade rotor design hit Mach 1.08, showing hardware can withstand more extreme aerodynamics than Ingenuity faced.

The results support future Mars aircraft development, including faster rotor designs under NASA’s SkyFall effort.
