Sulfur amino acid restriction caused rapid fat loss, but it also lowered bone density and reduced bone-forming activity.

Adding N-acetylcysteine reversed the bone damage, pointing to cysteine and glutathione depletion as the cause.

The findings suggest fat-loss benefits may be separated from skeletal harm, which could help enable safer obesity treatments.
