Microsoft is building an AI stack it doesn’t fully own — on purpose

Microsoft and Mistral announced a multibillion-dollar partnership to expand enterprise AI offerings across Microsoft products and platforms.

Mistral models will be integrated into Microsoft AI services, including Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft Foundry, and Copilot Studio.

The deal also uses Mistral’s European infrastructure to support sovereign, on-premises, and air-gapped deployments.

It highlights growing demand for flexible AI setups that meet data residency, regulatory, and sovereignty requirements.
