A homemade drone has just surpassed 700 km/h, putting the official record on the ropes

A homemade drone called Blackbird reportedly hit 453 mph in testing, putting pressure on the current official drone speed record.

The craft, built by Ben Biggs and Aidan, appears to benefit from new carbon-fiber propellers that improve efficiency at extreme speeds.

Even with a more conservative airspeed estimate and average run speed, the tests still top the certified benchmark held by Luke Bell and Mike Bell.

The attempt was unofficial, however, and was complicated by wind, signal loss, and a hard landing, so it is not yet a verified world record.
