Data From Chinese Moon Lander Shows Signs of Peculiar Radiation “Cavity”

Researchers analyzed Chang’e-4 lander data and found a recurring dip in galactic cosmic ray flux near lunar prenoon.

The team reported the radiation cavity appears a few Earth hours after lunar sunrise and lasts roughly two Earth days per lunar revolution.

They attribute the cavity to Earth's magnetic field extending up to and beyond lunar orbit, and measured about a 20% reduction in radiation during the window.
