AMD is adding HDMI 2.1 support for Linux. That's good news for the Steam Machine.

AMD has posted amdgpu patches that add HDMI FRL support, moving its Linux graphics driver closer to HDMI 2.1 compliance.

The update is not fully complete yet, because Display Stream Compression (DSC) support is still under testing.

AMD says the work toward full HDMI 2.1 support is ongoing.

If completed, it could unlock higher-bandwidth display features and remove a key compatibility barrier for the Steam Machine.
