AI makes ransomware more effective in 65 percent of cases

Proofpoint surveyed 953 security professionals across 12 countries and found AI made ransomware-related attacks more effective for 65% of affected organizations.

The biggest impact was on the social-engineering phase: AI made phishing, credential theft, and other lures more convincing before encryption or extortion.

The report suggests ransomware defenders need to prioritize people, identities, and trusted communications, not just endpoint security and recovery.
